be opposed to this? the nra is opposed to this. the nra is wildly opposed to this. in tucson top, anniversary of the massacre there, the nra has come outraging against the tucson gun buy-back program. they're trying to stop it. an nra board member is threatening that the nra will sue to stop tucson from destroying the guns that they handed over. the guns, regardless what their owners wanted, done with them, those guns must be sold to the highest bidder and put back into circulation. the nra says the state must not destroy the weapons that people handed over specifically so the weapons could be destroyed. instead, the nra says the state has to sell them, keep them in circulation, and thereby become a gun dealer itself. when your response to the political cliche of low-hanging fruit is something so cartoon h cartoonishly insensitive, so cartoonishly villainous, you then bring upon us a second political cliche. you have jumped the shark. blocking voluntary efforts by people to get rid of their own guns because they want to voluntarily? that is an exercise in shark jumping. this is the sort of t

insight into that fascinating meeting today at the white house between vice president biden and the nra. what can the vice president, what can the white house reasonably expect to get out of the nra today? >> the nra is going to go in there with a conciliatory face. they're being smart. they're sending not their top lobbyist but an official who has worked with biden over the years, worked with him in the '90s in the senate, is actually friends with him from the delaware beach, jim baker, the nra's number two, but he's coming with a very hard message. the nra told me that in the past 18 days, their paid memberships have gone up 100,000. they've gone from 4.1 million to 4.2 million. and they tell me that before this debate is over, they want to get to 5 million. so the nra sees this fight as a growth opportunity. willie, it's $25 a year, you get a free camo duffel bag with that. and we're told that jim baker, the nra lobbyist, is going to tell vice president biden we're willing to discuss, talk to you about any possible constructive solution, but here's the kicker, we listen to people bey

a representative from the nra. joining me now is msnbc's enjoy reid and patricia maze who helped to stop the tucson shooter, by wrestling a wave of bullets before he could reload. patricia, i want to start with you tonight. one thing that the nra talks about tonight, you can't stop all of these killings. we know that we can't stop all of them. for me, the question is how easy do we want to make it for them? and one of those questions is, how big are the magazines that we want the mass shooters to have access to? and as you know from your own personal experience the only reason that shooting stopped was because he had to reload. >> that is right, there is absolutely no reason for the general population to have that kind of fire capacity. or that type of gun, the assault weapons. there is no reason for that. now our shooter had a glock. so that doesn't fall into that category, i don't believe. but the high capacity magazines, if he had only had ten bullets in that first magazine, there probably would not be as many people injured or dead. >> yeah, patricia, i have said i blame the shooter for the fir
